Changing Futures
Lived experience
The 2024 report on understanding multiple unmet needs in Hull highlighted some of the voices of those with lived experience in Hull, articulating what they needed. The ‘need statements’ below are taken directly from this report. They are all based on real feedback ascertained from research teams working in Hull. These statements aim to respectfully reflect some of the views of those with lived experience.
A selection of some of these statements have been used to demonstrate some of the key messages from the report. This is as well as some positive success stories by highlighting how work by Changing Futures has responded to those needs.
“People want to hear what I’ve got to say and learn from me.”
- Lived Experience Input and Co-Design is meaningfully valued by services and staff
The importance of ensuring that input from those with lived experience is a priority in service design and decision making was a key part of the report. It highlights that services and pathways should be ‘designed with the needs and voices in mind of the clients who will use them’.
“We need patient voice in the process. They need to be included in decisions about them. My client was so distressed today because he felt all of this stuff had been decided without him.”
– Hostel Social Worker
Addressing this important element of need, Changing Futures have employed a lived experience lead.
This role will bring together lived experience groups across the city and across different partnerships to ensure that voices of those living with multiple unmet needs are heard, valued and incorporated at all levels of decision-making.
